This sermon by Bill Teubl focuses on Psalms 127 and 128 as practical guides for building a healthy, God-centered home. He explores these psalms to highlight key blessings and principles for marriage and family life, moving from the profound meaning of marriage in Ephesians to more tangible applications found in these songs of ascent.
[00:00:09]This is a follow-up on the topic of marriage, moving from the profound meaning in Ephesians 5 to the more practical applications in Psalms 127 and 128.[00:04:53]1. Rest and Freedom from Anxiety: The phrase “God gives rest to his loved ones” (Psalm 127:2) is a practical indicator of a healthy home. Our sleep and how we eat reflect our level of anxiety.[00:08:50]This rest is found by taking Christ’s yoke upon us (Matthew 11:28-29), co-laboring with Him in our work and lives.[00:11:56]2. Victory Over the Enemy: A man with a “quiver full” of children will not be put to shame when confronting his accuser at the gate (Psalm 127:5). This signifies victory over the enemy’s accusations.[00:14:13]This involves two things: nurturing godly life within the home and protecting it from evil influences.[00:16:11]Children are like arrows; the goal is not just to nurture them but to prepare them to be “shot out” to hit the mark and serve God’s purposes in the world.[00:22:27]3. Enjoying the Fruit of Your Labor: Those who fear the Lord will enjoy the fruit of their labor and be prosperous (Psalm 128:2). This is a godly prosperity where we can enjoy God’s blessings without anxiety.[00:25:40]This contrasts with the parable of the rich fool (Luke 12:16-21), who stored up treasure for himself but was not rich toward God.[00:30:49]4. Fruitfulness: A wife like a “fruitful vine” and children like “olive shoots” (Psalm 128:3) symbolize spiritual and natural fruitfulness in a home.[00:32:49]While we can till the soil and plant seeds, only God can make things grow. We abide in Christ (John 15) to bear fruit.[00:36:15]5. Extended Blessing: The blessings of a healthy home extend to the community (Jerusalem) and to future generations (grandchildren), bringing peace (Psalm 128:5-6).[00:38:31]God is bigger than our failures as parents. Through confession and reliance on His promises, He can restore the years and bring blessing.
