Meeting Notes for 08-29-10Bruce Hempel – The attitude of the early church toward sufferingDr. Bill Teubl – The role of a soldier in the churchBruce Hempel – The attitude of the early church toward sufferingMany Christians will state that they are believers because they "go to church every week." A true believer is someone who is called to be like Jesus. Many Christians feel that they cannot be like Christ, but we forget that we are sons of God. Acts 16 - The gospel is brought to Philipi. Paul and Silas are thrown into jail where they set free by an earthquake. The authorities apologize and then ask them to leave. Acts 17 - Thessalonica was a large area with a strong Jewish influence. There is a pattern of Paul coming to a region, preaching in the synagogue, and then being run out of town. "The brethren" sent Paul away so that he did not come to harm. Many of these believers had not been saved for more than 3 weeks. Christians in America should be ready, willing, and able to suffer for Christ. We as Christians must have the mentality that suffering for Christ is an honor--the attitude of a martyr. 1 Thessalonians 3 Dr. Bill Teubl - The role of a soldier in the churchThe role of knowing what it is to be a solider, is a very important one. One of the key elements of being a soldier to understand what it is to deal with thoughts. It is no coincidence that David--one of the primary fighting figures in the Old Testement--wanted to be in the house of the Lord. There is a strong correlation between fighting and building a place for the Lord. Philipians 2:25 - He characterizes Epaphrodi'tus as a brother, a worker, and a fellow soldier. We should be co-laborers with those in the church. Our "inner circle" should be those who we are ready to watch each others' backs. Brothers and sisters must learn to be tender-hearted toward one another. When we are affective warriors, people are saved and strongholds are broken. |
