Meeting Notes for 06-06-10Dr. Bill Teubl – God’s Love and James 5:13-18Bruce Hempel: Our Reaction to TruthDr. Bill Teubl:We should make it our business to know the love of God. We should learn to love God, but until we learn that God loves us, we cannot completely love God. We should not reject the world in order to encourage the love of God. Instead, we should learn to reject the parts of the world while learning the love of God. James 5:13-18 - Several themes run through this passage: 1. The elders should be of influence in the church There are some days that some of us will experience a lack of prayer in our lives. On those days, others in the church, who are having a joyful day, will supplement your lack of prayer, thereby enabling the church to continually pray. V14 – Why did James use sickness as his example? The word in the Old Testament for sickness is the same as salvation. James is not implying that all sickness comes from sin. Instead, he implies that there are some circumstances in which the sin is the source of the sickness. If the church is regularly praying and confessing sins to one another, the floodgates of blessing will open. Bruce Hempel:We are a disciple of Jesus. Reactions to Truth: Luke 16:10-17 We should have an assurance that we are Christ's disciple. Your flesh will be hostile, your spirit will welcome it. There is a price to pay. The calling will not be easy, but it will be more fulfilling. |
