Dr. Bill Teubl: God’s Love; 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

If we grow in love with God, we will grow in love for others. How do we grow in love? 1 John 3 – “We love because he first loved us.” It is something we must cultivate our love. It must be an everyday labor.

There are three things that Paul speaks about:

1) Speaking in the tongues of angels

Apart from the fact that we have love, then we are nothing but a noisy gong. When the word of God is communicated, if we do not feel the love of God, then we will not hear it. Without the love of God, we cannot hear his word.

2) Prophetic powers

What does it mean for God to have prophetic powers? God has known all things since the beginning of the world. If we cannot understand the motivation of God—His love—than we will not understand his greatness

3) Give away all that we have

This is a clear picture of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. If we make a sacrifice of that degree, yet not have love, then it would not mean anything. Jesus, however, gave up all he had and had a perfect love for mankind—even on the cross.
